报告人简介:

        中山大学岭南学院教授、博士生导师,研究领域包括数字经济、数字(普惠)金融、风险管理等。曾在美国麻省理工学院(MIT)、等名校访问,是国家社科基金重大项目“数字普惠金融的创新、风险与监管研究”的首席专家、爱思唯尔中国高被引学者(2020、2021,应用经济学)、广东省高校青年珠江学者、广东省自然科学基金杰出青年项目和霍英东教育基金项目获得者。主持了国家自科面上项目等10余项课题;在本领域著名期刊发表学术论文80余篇,其中SCI/SSCI收录40余篇,出版学术著作7部;研究成果获得五项省部级奖,包括第八届高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖(人文社会科学)二等奖、广东省哲学社科优秀成果一等奖等;10余份政策咨询报告获得省部级以上领导批示,或被中办和省委办公厅采用供有关领导参阅。学术兼职包括广东省本科高校金融学类专业教学指导委员会秘书长、中国优选法统筹法与经济数学研究会理事、中国优选法统筹法与经济数学研究会量化金融与保险分会秘书长和常务理事、Quantitative Finance and Economics编委等。

摘      要:

       This paper develops a theoretical framework with heterogeneous customers and two representative insurers to study the impact of insurers’ technology accessibility on their technology adoption decisions and market shares. Intuitively, when technology accessibility is observable, an insurer’s access to a new technology improves its market share. However, when technology accessibility is unobservable, the insurer’s access to the new technology has some additional side effects on its market share. First, the insurer applies its available technology even when the technology increases its cost and premium, which decreases its market share. Moreover, the unobservable technology accessibility leads customers to expect that insurers may all have access to the new technology and underestimate the premium of those without access, which also decreases the market share of an insurer who has access to the new technology. Our results help explain the unclear relationship between technology adoption and the market share dynamic of insurance companies in practice.
