摘 要:
In this talk, which is non-technical and meant for a general audience, the speaker will share some interesting facts about networks. A network comprises nodes, and links between them. For example, the nodes may be people (in which case we call the network a "social network") where the links denote friendships that exist between the nodes (such a network is called a "friendship network"). As another example, the nodes may be webpages, with links being hyperlinks between them (this network is nothing but the World Wide Web). Networks are ubiquitous, and influence our lives in fundamental and sometimes hidden ways. You are part of a social network (as we all are). To what extent are you influenced by your network? Who are the most influential members in your network? Is it fair for you to compare yourself with other members in the network? This talk is expository in nature. It contains no original content.
