报告人简介:

       Professor Weizhu BAO is Provost's Chair Professor at Department of Mathematics, and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Academic Affairs of Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore. He got his PhD from Tsinghua University in 1995. He has made  significant contributions in modeling and simulation of  Bose-Einstein condensation, solid-state dewetting and geometric  flows; and multiscale methods and analysis for highly oscillatory PDEs.

He was awarded the Feng Kang Prize in Scientific Computing by  the Chinese Computational Mathematics Society in 2013.  He was an Invited Speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in 2014 and is a plenary speaker at the International Congress of Industrail.



摘      要:

       In this talk, we present numerical simulations for the pinch-off dynamics in the  Stokes regime and the diffusion-dominated regime by adaopting the Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes model derived by applying Onsager's variational principle. The Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes model is solved by using an accurate and efficient spectral method in a cylindrical domain with axisymmetry. Ample numerical examples are presented to show the pinch-off processes in the Stokes regime and the diffusion-dominated regime, respectively. In particular, the crossover between these two regimes is investigated numerically and analytically to reveal how the scaling behaviors of similarity solutions are to be qualitatively changed as the characteristic length scale is inevitably accessed by the pinching neck of the interface.
